Without stating the obvious it will depend on the type of insurance policy you are setting up. Where possible, it is best, financially speaking, to ensure only over 25 year olds drive your van as this will have significant savings on your premium. Additionally, consider your drivers if they have had big claims as again this will put up your insurance premium. Normally though you will not have the luxury of selecting only a couple of people to do the driving as you will want to deploy staff all over, requiring them to drive your van. If you have a fleet of vans then consider the smaller vans for your younger or accident prone drivers. Van Insurance: What else do I need to know?

Van definition: a van is a commercial vehicle that has been designed to carry goods, often as referred to as goods in transit. Additionally a van typically will carry less than 4 people. Finally the commercial vehicle (van) must weight less than 44 tonnes unlaiden (Gross Vehicle Weight - GVW).
For insurance to cover a commercial vehicle(s) which exceeds 3.5 tonnes then HGV insurance will provide sufficient insurance cover, unless it is identified as a specialist commercial vehicle insurance. Lionheart Insurance can still provide specialist commercial vehicle insurance through the agreements they have with insurance companies.

Van Insurance and Commercial Vehicle Insurance will normally cover drivers with a minimum age of 21 and have had a full UK (or EU) licence for a minimum of 1 year.

Van Insurance usage will cover you, when set up for a business use for most commercial businesses. If you need the van insurance to cover the following then you MUST inform your broker: professional sports, entertainment industry, foreign service, fashion industry, foreign diplomatic personnel, minicab controllers or minicab drivers.

If you need your Van Insurance to cover Goods in Transit, you MUST state this up front. Lionheart Insurance can provide van insurance to cover Goods in transit but this must be stated when discussing your commercial vehicle insurance with the Lionheart representative.
